Tree-Planting Pilot in Berderesh — 2022
In late November and early December 2022, a pilot project in Berderesh involved planting 100 young trees using Groasis Waterboxx.
The pilot was personally funded by Nejervan Bamerny, owner of the Dutch company MesoNature B.V., and carried out in collaboration with Salahaddin University in Erbil, for Bishar Axa and his work with farmers in Kurdistan.
The aim was to demonstrate the use of Waterboxx for establishing young trees while making careful use of limited water resources. The activities included practical demonstrations of planting and Waterboxx installation.

Mountain Tree-Planting Pilot in Bamerne — 2025–2026
In February 2025, Nejervan Bamerny, owner of MesoNature B.V., personally funded a tree-planting pilot in the mountains near Bamerne. He planted 200 young trees with Groasis Waterboxx and a further 500 without Waterboxx.
The mountain location experiences cold winters and snow, and transporting water to the planting site was difficult. An earlier planting attempt had failed because of flooding.
To maintain the trees, Nejervan purchased a motor-driven water pump and paid a local caretaker. The caretaker visited two or sometimes three times per week to inspect and water the trees without Waterboxx. According to Nejervan’s experience at this site, the Waterboxx units needed refilling only about once a month.
During a visit in July 2026, approximately seventeen months after planting, Nejervan counted the surviving trees. He recorded approximately 90% survival among the trees planted with Waterboxx, compared with approximately 50% among those planted without it.
These figures reflect observations from this local pilot. Tree species, planting positions and other growing conditions may also have influenced survival. The experience provides a practical basis for further planting and monitoring in Bamerne’s mountain landscape.
